And the Gender is....

Today we had our 20 week ultrasound.  The baby was not crunched up in one tiny part of my uterus refusing to be measured (Ellie).  However, it also didn't show us what it was right away like Ellie did.  We had another long ultrasound with a baby who felt like keeping its back to the machine and refusing to let them get all they needed pictures of (Ellie).  So, in 6 weeks we have another ultrasound because we didn't get to see the baby's face even once and the doctor didn't get a clear enough picture of the heart to satisfy him that everything is good there.  He did say that nothing looked wrong, so that's good, and baby is big again, measuring in the 95th and 98th percentiles for different measurements.  The doctor told us he has learned not to trust those completely, and we both agreed and believed them at the same time because Ellie always measured big during ultrasounds, and she still is in the 98th percentile for her age group of girls.

Oh, and right at the very end of the ultrasound, we did get to find out what we're having.  And we will see if we continue to make big tall girls, because Ellie is going to have a little sister!  This pregnancy has been so completely different than Ellie was that we were a little surprised it's another girl, but not at all disappointed.  We are excited for Ellie to have a sister to play with and we have both loved our girl and look forward to loving two girls now!  And, we look forward to putting our bins and bins of stored pink and purple to good use again rather than buying lots of new things.  What can I say, I'm cheap...

Steve says this means he needs to buy more guns, but I have a sneaking suspicion he would have said the same thing if it was a boy and then he'd just need more guns so he could go shooting with his son.  If this girl loves Daddy half as much as Ellie does though, I'm sure he'll still get to shoot with her, because we have learned with Ellie that with a Daddy's girl, everything he likes she likes too.

Beyond that, everything is going pretty well minus a few major back spasms (thank goodness for muscle relaxers, icy hot patches, heat pads, and hot baths!).  Our doctor has said my weight gain is right in the normal range and not worrisome at all which is a good sign for our doing all we can to avoid preeclampsia again, and we were reassured today that the severe type I had called HELP syndrome is very rare in general and reoccurence is even less likely, so we are healthy and ready to take what comes.  Now to pull out all the pink and purple!  As we move... again...

(Oh, and the major downside of the baby's back being to us - not a single picture of baby to share!  All we got were a few shots of fingers, legs, and spine.  Lame.  Stinking stubborn Bennett genes.... and maybe a few Rose ones too...)
